The Farm Week in Photos

A Praying Mantis! Now that the mornings are colder, the insects move much slower. I moved this little fellow to the light of the sunrise so he could warm up and get to work eating those grey aphids in the bottom center of the picture.
This Monarch is freshly hatched. All summer, the crew and I have found many Monarch caterpillars on everything from purslane to swiss chard. There is a lack of milkweed around the farm--a Monarch's main food source. I didn't get to see this one hatch from the cocoon; the below photo is how I found her.

Easter Egg Radishes. When they're cleaned up and washed they're absolutely beautiful with their variations of purples, pinks, and reds!
Rainbow Swiss Chard, an awesome leafy green very similar in taste to spinach, except sassier. These are about three-quarter pound bunches going to either our CSA members or to be sold to one of our grocery store customers.
Oh, Zinnias; the farmer's flower. It frosted Saturday night, so all of these flowers are now brown and dead. Mother Nature only knows constant change.
